Al-HUDA Association of Penrith was established almost 15 years ago in order to address the religious needs of the muslim community in the Penrith region. In early 2003, muslim residents of Penrith started gathering on Tuesdays for Maghrib prayers. These prayers were mostly offered in the home garages upon the weekly visit of Jamats. As the number of muslims in the area started gradually increasing, the need for establishing Friday prayers was realised.
Initially we started Friday prayers at Claremont Meadows community centre and the venue for Friday prayers was later on changed to Kingswood neighbourhood centre. Members of Al-HUDA however started moving out of Penrith one after another. Until 2006, there was no significant progress except Friday prayers being organized by few brothers on voluntary basis. Between 2006 and 2010 the muslim population in Penrith region significantly increased and in 2010 it was realised that the muslim community in the region was deeply concerned with no arrangements in the area for their children to learn Quran and offer prayers. In order to address these concerns and keeping in view the long term needs of the community to have an Islamic centre in the Penrith region the foundations of Al-HUDA Association was laid.
